The CW aired season two finale of The Originals last Monday (May 11th) and they’ve announced that Riley Voelkel has been promoted as a series regular.

Introduced in season two, Riley Voelkel plays Freya Mikaelson in the show and she has been a very important part of the plot for so many episodes that of course, she had to end in a “good” way. The Originals‘ season two finale was unexpected, considering that there was no cliffhanger for the next (confirmed) season.

What we can suggest is that after Rebekah’s (Claire Holt/Maisie Richardson-Sellers) departure to find herself as a human being and a witch, Freya will take her place taking her of her brothers, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hope. As executive producer Michael Narducci said, “Freya is going to stick around and help raise [Hope]. She’s allowing Rebekah the chance to go have a life by sticking around. I’m really excited to see what role this new sister is going to have in the family and how she may play off of both of her brothers. I’m really excited about that family dynamic.”
